Drawing the northern air temple was certainly a treat. We actually comprised this scene way before any of it was shown in The Legend of Korra. We only used Avatar: The Last Airbender references! While it’s stated in the text, we just want to reiterate how Nima is literally writing down his experiences – everything we see from this point is from his experiences before and after Sozin’s Comet. In this opening scene, Nima is remembering his home during his favored time of year – winter. This is how he chooses to remember the temple, regardless of the weather at the time of the attack. We can extrapolate that this may be his favorite season because of the Winter Solstice – where he eventually meets his special someone at a festival.
